Quoting for landscapers

Landscaping quotes are long lists: excavation, base, pavers, edging, soil, turf, plants, mulch, cartage, labour. Twenty lines on a quote covers a good-sized garden. Quote Desk keeps the per-metre and per-square-metre rates on your list so a quote is counting, not calculating.

What gets in the way for landscapers

Materials move with the market

Turf, soil and pavers change price. A price list you can update between jobs, with old quotes unchanged, keeps the margin where you set it.

The design conversation that never ends

Customers add a garden bed in every phone call. A quote with named lines and a note that says additions are quoted separately draws the line.

Weather and timing

Rain stops play. The note is where you say that start dates are weather dependent, so the yes includes that.

Cartage and disposal

Tip fees and truck time are forgotten in a hurry and paid for out of the margin. Lines on the list for each mean they are never left off.

A worked example

Landscaper work, with Quote Desk

Imagine a fictional landscaping business, Stonefield Gardens, a team of three. Their list has about twenty items: excavation per cubic metre $95, crushed rock base per square metre $28, concrete pavers supply and lay per square metre $145, timber edging per metre $42, garden soil per cubic metre $110, turf supply and lay per square metre $32, mulch per cubic metre $85, tip fees per load $180, labour per hour $80.

A customer pastes in an enquiry for a paved rear courtyard with a strip of lawn. On site: 36 square metres of paving, 18 of turf, 14 metres of edging. Quote this: excavation x8, base x36, pavers x36, edging x14, soil x3, turf x18, tip fees x2. Note: price includes GST, paver from the standard range, existing concrete removal included in excavation, start date weather dependent, plants not included. Total $8,842. Sent from the car, follow-ups switched on. The customer accepts after the first reminder.

A month later the same customer asks about planting. That is a new quote, built the same way, with plants as typed-in lines.

Questions from landscapers

Can I quote per square metre and per cubic metre on one quote?

Yes. Each item on your list has its own unit. Quantities are whole numbers, so round the cubic metres up.

Twenty lines is not enough for my job

Group the small items into one typed-in line such as sundries and fixings, or split the job into two quotes, one for hard landscaping and one for soft.

Are landscapers listed on Talk of the Trade?

Landscaping is not one of the 28 trade categories the directory ranks as of October 2026, so there are no landscaping figures to quote here. Quote Desk is the same tool for every trade and does not depend on a listing.

Send the next one from the ute.

Free is five quotes a month, paid for by a marketing consent instead of a card. Past that, Starter is $39 a month. Either way the set-up is typing in your price list.
