Quoting for concreters

Concrete is quoted by the square metre or the cubic metre, with the finish, the thickness, the mesh and the excavation moving the price. Quote Desk keeps the rate for each finish on your list, so a driveway quote is a measurement and a few picks, sent from the kerb.

What gets in the way for concreters

Driveway quotes on a Saturday

Driveways get measured on weekends because that is when the owner is home. A quote sent before you drive off beats one promised for Monday.

Exposed, coloured, plain

The finish changes the price more than the size does. Separate lines for each finish on the list show the customer what they are choosing.

Pump and access

A pump for a backyard slab with no truck access is a real cost. A line for it, named, is not padding.

Weather and the pour

Pours move with the forecast. Say so in the note, so the yes is a yes to that too.

A worked example

Concreter work, with Quote Desk

A fictional business, Setline Concreting, four on the crew. Price list: plain concrete per square metre 100 millimetre $95, exposed aggregate per square metre $165, coloured concrete per square metre $130, excavation and removal per square metre $35, concrete pump per pour $650, mesh and bar per square metre $12, saw cuts per metre $8, formwork per metre $22.

A homeowner forwards a request for a new double driveway in exposed aggregate. Measured on site: 58 square metres, 24 metres of edge. Quote this: excavation x58, exposed aggregate x58, mesh x58, formwork x24, saw cuts x12. Note: price includes GST, existing driveway removal included, pour date weather dependent, council crossover permit by the owner, no vehicles for seven days after the pour. Total $12,920. Sent from the kerb. The owner accepts on Sunday after the first reminder.

A backyard shed slab with no truck access adds the pump line and a sentence in the note explaining why.

Questions from concreters

Can I quote per cubic metre instead?

Yes. Put the item on your list with cubic metre as the unit. Quantities are whole numbers, so round up.

What about the crossover and permits?

Say in the note whose job the permit is. Quote Desk puts your words in front of the customer before they press "Accept this quote".
