Quoting for air conditioning installers

Split systems are quoted against a brand and a kilowatt rating, with the install as the thing that varies: wall type, pipe run, bracket, electrical. Quote Desk puts the install items on a list so the unit is one typed-in line and everything else is a tick.

What gets in the way for air conditioning installers

Heatwave week

When the forecast says 40, every enquiry wants a number by lunchtime. A price list with the standard installs on it means the quote goes out from the first site, not from the office at nine at night.

The unit is only half the price

Customers compare the unit price online. The quote has to show the install, the pipe run, the electrical and the bracket as separate lines so the total makes sense against a box price.

Back-to-back versus a long run

A back-to-back install and a 12-metre pipe run to a plant deck are different jobs at the same kilowatt. Lines for pipe per metre, bracket type and condensate pump keep the quote honest.

Servicing contracts and repeat work

A service is a quote too. A fixed line for a standard service, sent the same way, gets accepted the same way.

A worked example

Air conditioning installer work, with Quote Desk

Take a fictional installer, Southerly Air, two technicians. Price list: standard back-to-back split install $650 each, additional pipe run per metre $85, wall bracket $140 each, condensate pump $220 each, dedicated circuit and isolator $380 each, annual service $190 each, old unit removal and disposal $120 each.

A customer pastes a request for a 7 kilowatt split in a living room with the outdoor unit on the side wall around the corner. The technician measures five metres of extra run. Quote this: a typed-in line for the unit supply at $2,150, back-to-back install x1, additional pipe per metre x5, wall bracket x1, dedicated circuit x1, old unit removal x1. Note: price includes GST, unit as specified or equivalent if stock is short, install within ten working days, five-year manufacturer warranty registered by us. Total $3,865. Sent from the driveway. Accepted that evening.

In April the same customer gets a quote for an annual service: one line, $190, with a note on what the service covers. Accepted from the phone in a minute.

Questions from air conditioning installers

Can I quote the unit and the install separately?

Yes, as separate lines on the same quote, or as two quotes if the customer might buy the unit elsewhere. Lines show the customer where the money goes.

What about rebates?

Show the rebate as a line with a lower price or explain it in the note. Quote Desk has no rebate field; it adds the lines you give it.
